From this beautiful land, in the very heart of the Andes...
From this beautiful land, in the very heart of the Andes mountains, I send this greeting and a message of good cheer. Twelve years ago Christian Science found me a physical wreck, after years of vain effort to obtain relief through materia medica and when rapidly approaching that degree of hopelessness which I realized would be fatal. The ills from which I suffered are too numerous to mention here, but among them were stomach trouble, nervous debility, and severe headache.
At this time a neighbor who was a Christian Scientist brought me a copy of Science and Health, and I began to study it at once, without being aware of what the book could do for me; but at the end of a few weeks I found myself free from all my ills and rejoicing in a condition of health such as I had never known before. The change was so apparent to my neighbors that one of them, a stanch member of the orthodox church, and also a constant sufferer, came to my home and asked what had brought it about. I assured her that Science and Health had been my only help, and reluctantly allowed her to take my copy for a few days. She became interested very soon, receiving much benefit, and today is a practitioner and loyal worker in the vineyard of Christian Science.
In the past six years business interests have brought me to this far-away land, and I cannot be grateful enough for the help which Science proved to be in overcoming the pain of separation from loved ones on each occasion. It has also helped me to meet the changes of climate, and has been my support through all the periods of residence here, under conditions entirely different from those to which I had been accustomed. On one of the voyages I was able to overcome a severe attack of seasickness in a very few hours, and later on enjoyed a voyage of twenty-five days without an hour's illness.
