It is now something over five years since my attention was directed to Christian Science. The published testimonies have proved of great benefit to me, and to many whom I know. Like thousands of others who turn to Christian Science, I came for the physical healing, which I received wholly and completely. About twelve years ago I contracted what specialists pronounced an incurable organic disease. My physician told me I would have to use drugs for the rest of my life, but that a permanent cure was not within the range of possibility. This verdict weighed upon me to such an extent that at the end of two years I was a wreck physically and mentally.
I had heard through friends that Christian Science would heal cases like mine, but knowing more about the physical condition than the method of cure, I was not a little skeptical. I consented, however, to read the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and shortly afterward I found that certain symptoms with which I was familiar failed to present themselves. Even then I was reluctant to believe that I was actually cured, but subsequent events have removed every doubt and fear. I now rejoice in the best health it has ever been my good fortune to know, and sufficient time has elapsed without a return of the trouble to justify the statement that a cure effected through Christian Science can experience no relapse.
For the sake of those who perhaps have gone through a similar experience, or have been dissuaded from reading the text-book because of failure to arrive at what they assume to be a necessary and satisfactory understanding of it, it occurs to me to say that I was forced to the acknowledgment, after reading Science and Health, that I had not at first the faintest conception of what the author was trying to impart; but since studying this most remarkable book, I know that what I lacked was spiritual discernment. This has been acquired since my healing.
