I am glad to testify to the healing of one of my grand-children...
I am glad to testify to the healing of one of my grand-children through Christian Science. I was present at the birth of this child, whose parents were not at that time Christian Scientists. In caring for the baby I discovered a large swelling on its neck. I denied this evidence, declaring there could be no imperfection in God's idea. When the doctor came to see the baby, he too noticed the swelling and at once said it was a goiter. As the mother had one on her neck, I supposed this was what it would be called. The doctor called the next day, bringing his wife, who is a trained nurse, and another physician. They examined the baby's neck, and all said they knew of nothing that could be done for it. My husband and I talked the matter over and said we would like to try Christian Science for the child, and the next time I was at my son's house the mother surprised me by asking if we did not think Christian Science treatment would help the baby. I said I knew it would, and she asked me to see a practitioner. After telling a practitioner about the case, I asked her to give treatment, and she did. When I saw the child again, about five days later, the neck was nearly normal, and in a few more days it was perfectly natural. The child is now two years old, and there has never been the least symptom of swelling since; its neck is perfectly normal.
Another wonderful demonstration, to us, was the healing of one of my sons. He is a farmer, and early one morning, as he was doing his chores, he stuck a pitchfork into the side of a haystack to help him climb up on it. As he turned to get down, his foot slipped. The fork had fallen out of the stack so that the tines were turned outward, and he struck it as he fell, the outside tine entering the lower part of the bowels in the center, and passing six inches by actual measurement toward the hip. He immediately drew out the fork himself. Seeing his wife in the yard, he called to her, and when she reached him he had fainted. She ran to the house and telephoned for his two brothers. They soon arrived, and after carrying him into the house they put him to bed. He seemed to be in great pain. By this time my husband appeared, and as this son is interested in Christian Science, his father telephoned to a practitioner, telling her what had occurred, and asking her to begin treatment at once. She promised to do so. My son had regained consciousness, but he complained of great pain and numbness in the arm and the side of the body which had been injured. He got relief from the pain in half an hour; by evening the numbness had disappeared, and he continued to improve right along. The third day he ate dinner with the family; in less than a week he did heavy work, and in a few days more, was back in the field, as well as ever. That was three years ago, and he has felt no bad effects from the accident since. To me these were two wonderful demonstrations, for they proved that divine Mind is the surgeon, and that God is an ever-present help.—Ellen A. Lock, Central City, Neb.
