Since childhood I had much trouble with my ankles, the doctor keeping me off my feet for a month at one time, saying that I had inflamed ligaments, and threatening me with more serious trouble if I did not follow his advice. After that it was years before I ever tried to wear low shoes, and yet I continued to turn my ankles. I would be laid up a week at a time. About two years ago, when helping to stage a little operetta, late one afternoon I turned my ankle, and for a moment all the old fear and pain came back. I had received help in Christian Science before, and felt I must overcome this error then, if I did not wish to be a slave to fear. I could hardly force my way to the telephone, but I did so, and called up a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help. She treated me that evening, and the next morning telephoned me. Although I was somewhat better, I was still very loath to use the ankle much, so I asked her to continue treatment during the day, as it was quite necessary that I should attend a rehearsal in the evening. As a result, I was able to direct the rehearsal, which required a great deal of walking about. I felt no bad results, only a great peace of mind, and gratitude for the wonderful truth that is showing us the real spiritual man and the glory of divine Mind.
I have not had any trouble with my ankles since, or any fear of it. I can wear low shoes and am perfectly free from the old weakness. I am sincerely grateful for this, and for the many blessings which come to me each day through an understanding of Christian Science.
