[Written for the Sentinel]

God's Works

The works of God beyond compare are great;
Not merely mountain huge, and glacier stream,
And stars, and sun with golden morning beam,—
Although with joy these things we contemplate,
Since all that truly is, Mind doth create,—
But rather doth the Lord most gracious seem
Because His hand hath made the earth to teem
With blessings fitted to our needy state.

God's promises to us are always sure.
To those who trust He giveth daily meat;
His judgments through the ages shall endure;
All strength, all life, we find in Him complete.
Through fear of Him we gain in wisdom pure,
Through love of Him we serve with willing feet.
