A sense of deep gratitude to God impels me to testify to the great blessings which I have experienced through Christian Science. In April, 1909, I had an acute attack of rheumatism, and was bedridden for a while. I suffered great pain in my legs, and could not move them in the least. A physician prescribed medicine which seemed to relieve the pain in a short time, but it was beyond his power to fit me for work. I then resorted to a remedy which is supposed to be very effective in cases of rheumatism; and whereas I had been almost incapacitated for work for over four months, the improvement that now took place enabled me to perform heavy duties. Still, I did not get along so well as formerly, In December, 1911, I had another very severe attack of the same trouble, and having lost all faith in the physicians, I immediately applied the remedy which I had used successfully on the former occasion. This time, however, it failed to benefit me. A bowel trouble and other difficulties were added, and I found myself in a practically hopeless condition; besides, I was discouraged, and felt that it was useless to try anything. But divine Providence decided otherwise.
I had heard something about the healing work performed through Christian Science, and I asked an acquaintance to give me some literature on the subject. I was so much impressed through reading this literature in connection with the Bible, that I confidently applied for treatment and was healed. This healing, of course, greatly aroused my interest in Christian Science. I subscribed for the Herold, and as soon as the German version of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," was published, I secured a copy, and read it very carefully. The Bible has become dear to me, as it now appears to me in a very different light, and I am happier every day for having been led to find this glorious teaching. I also used to suffer with a phase of toothache, and had teeth extracted on that account. This trouble has completely disappeared, and other ailments as well. I have been working steadily now for over two years, without losing one hour on account of ill health, and I enjoy such a sense of well-being as I never knew before. But far more important than this is the spiritual uplift which has taken place in me, and for which I am most deeply grateful.
There is with me a sense of great love for Mrs. Eddy, who with all her heart strove after an understanding of divine Truth, till the pure Christ-teaching, which today as of yore transforms the sinner and heals the sick, was again revealed to humanity through her.
