The Lectures
Willis F. Gross, who lectured on Christian Science, was introduced as follows by J. Foster Stevens, one of the faculty of the West Chester high school:—
During the past half century there has been a great movement, throughout the educational world, toward what has been termed applied science, or the practical application of the teachings of our schools. Simultaneous with this movement there has been one in religion, known as Christian Science. This, so far as I know it, may be called applied religion; applied love; the practical application of the teaching of that great Teacher who blessed this earth nearly two thousand years ago.
As to ultimate results sought, there is no difference between the Christian Science faith and any other faith or belief. The one great difference, however, between this church and other Christian churches is that the Science church teaches that if sickness, disease, and sin were overcome and cured through the doctrines of the Holy Bible in the time of Christ Jesus, there certainly can be no reason today why the application of the same teachings and doctrines will not bring about the same results. Christian Scientists are to be met with all over the world, who will tell you that they have received this spiritual healing both mentally and physically. We cannot afford to refuse this great movement a hearing.—Correspondence.
