A little over twelve years ago, two copies of The Christian Science Journal...
A little over twelve years ago, two copies of The Christian Science Journal were sent me, and they seemed in direct answer to a sincere desire to get a better understanding of the Bible. These Journals were read over and over, for it seemed so good to know there was a church that made Jesus' teaching practical, and that we in this age could be healed by prayer, as the Bible teaches. I soon purchased a copy of Science and Health, but did not understand much of it, except the chapter on Prayer, until after I had class instruction six years later. There was bitter antagonism in the family against what they thought Christian Science to be, but during this time I got a great deal of comfort and help from studying the Lesson-Sermons and the Christian Science publications.
I have had many proofs of physical healing. Sometimes I have had to ask for help from a practitioner, and the healing has not always been quick, but it has ever been accompanied by a sense of peace, and an uplift such as I never experienced from material remedies. A better understanding of the Bible, gained through the study and demonstration of Christian Science, has taught me to love it and its promises. I have come to know that they will be fulfilled in us as we demonstrate Truth and Love more in our daily lives. Often when duty seems difficult or unpleasant, this passage from Proverbs, speaking of wisdom, comes to me: "Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace," and it strengthens and cheers wonderfully.
For all these blessings I am truly thankful to God, and grateful to Mrs. Eddy and to all earnest workers in the field.
