Christian Science has again been the subject of attack by the evangelist preaching in your city. These attacks are a part of his stock in trade and seem to be characteristic of his methods. The procedure employed by this speaker seems to consist in formulating a series of false statements regarding Christian Science, and then working himself into a passion in tearing them to pieces. Of course this scattering of the man of straw he has set up, constitutes no indictment of Christian Science. To one who has the least grasp of the profound insight which Christian Science gives of spiritual things, such performances as this critic indulges in merely provoke a smile at their crudity, and at the same time sincere regret that a religious speaker should attempt to play on the lack of information of his hearers in such a puerile fashion.

The weakness of these critics consists in trying to substitute words for the demonstrable works which Christian Science does in following the commands of Jesus. Failing to do these works, they turn their batteries of denunciation upon them, a proceeding whose futility time has amply demonstrated. Not denunciation, but emulation of the healing works of Christian Science, should be the goal of every Christian. The Master's figure of the beam and the mote is respectfully referred to this critic for his careful and prayerful consideration, and his attention is called to the words of the Master, "Judge not, that ye be not judged."
