About eleven years ago my boy, then two and a half years...
About eleven years ago my boy, then two and a half years old, was taken with what is known as spinal meningitis. He was attended by our regular physician and a trained nurse, and two specialists were called in for consultation. After a few weeks the day came when they all decided that the child could not possibly recover and would last but a few hours. Just at this time a friend called. She was a Christian Science practitioner, and when I told her what the decision was, she asked if I would not try Christian Science. I told her that I had not the slightest faith in it, but if she believed my boy could be helped I wished she would try to help him. She said she would, and much to my surprise the child commenced to improve at once, and in about two weeks was perfectly well. He has not had the slightest return of the trouble, or any other ailment since as the result of having passed through that difficulty; and this is quite as remarkable as the healing itself.
Seeing this healing work done, caused me to think that the Christian Science religion must be far better than anything I had ever known about, although I had studied the Bible from my youth. Consequently, I began at once to study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, in connection with the Bible, and I was finally convinced that Christian Science was the same truth which Jesus taught and practised long ago.
During the past ten years I have found it to be true that God is a present help in every time of need. By the teachings of Christian Science I am learning to have more faith in good and less belief in evil, and am thereby gaining peace. I am truly grateful for Christian Science, and that I was enabled to recognize it as the truth when it was presented to me.—Nellie D. Tearle, Roxbury, Mass.
