About eighteen years ago I was said to be afflicted with an internal malignant growth. I tried every remedy that I heard of, and changed physicians several times, going from one doctor to another only to find no improvement whatever. This continued for six years. I became greatly reduced in flesh, and so weak that no rest could be obtained, even though I had good care. I was confined to my bed most of the time, with no hope of ever being well. I then went back to my kind family physician. He told me that an operation might prolong my life; but I did not care to submit to it, so we waited a while, and then to please my friends I called him again. After a brief examination he told me that it would only add to my misery, as I was then too weak to survive, even if the operation was gone through, and there seemed to be nothing to do but await the end.
About this time a lady moved into our neighborhood from a distant town. She had heard of my hopeless condition, so she called and kindly told me of her own healing, effected through Christian Science. She said that I could be healed also, but I did not think so. I told her I was too far gone, and that what she said was too good to be true; but I also told her that if she could do anything to let me have one night's rest from pain so that I could sleep, I wished she would do it. She talked to me a little while and left me. I slept that night and awoke refreshed, asked for food, ate it with relish, and retained it. This seemed a miracle to me, as I had been existing on stimulants and tonics. I continued to improve, relying on whatever this new friend told me about God as infinite divine Love that heals the sick. She came every day, and within a week I was out of bed, going about the house. I never went back to bed except to rest a little while or when I retired for the night.
About three months after this, my friend told me she was going to move away. I had kept the good words she had spoken to me, and pondered them in my heart every day. When she came to see me to bid me good-by, she told me to send for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and to read it carefully and study its meaning. I did so, with the result that there has never been a return of the malady in the slightest degree. I began to do my housework, and during the past few years have worked hard, being on my feet all day and often until late at night. I am perfectly well, and weigh more than the average woman. During this time I have relied entirely on Christian Science for healing of every kind. When I have asked others for help, I have never failed to get relief, often immediately. At one time I called on a practitioner for treatment and was sustained through a sorrow. I have also been able to help others, and this gives me great joy.
