[Written for the Sentinel]

The Rule of Mind

Ruler of every world and star,
Thou holdest man and beast and flower
In the safe shelter of Thy power,
And leadest lovingly and far.
No power of evil stays Thy hand,
Nor fear nor hate Thy might withstand.

Thy truth leads on to heights above,
Thy strength is might for feeble hands,
Thy knowledge human sense expands,
Thou givest little children love.
The rugged mountains praise Thy power,
Thy mercy spares the humblest flower.

O tender strength, O mighty Love,
Though error foeman's claim may press,
Love knoweth evil's nothingness,
And ever must the victor prove.
Truth strikes of wrong the final hour,
Whose might is love, the only power.
