The Morning Telegraph
There are in the United States, in round numbers, a million Christian Scientists. This means that there are a million optimists spread over the country who are enjoying good health and helping others. A life insurance company recently announced that persons are living to a greater age; that seventy years no longer is life's limit. As a matter of fact, it is said that if one lives in a right manner he may exist a century. Doctors are claiming credit for this increase in the length of life, but Christian Science really is responsible for it. One million Christian Scientists and five thousand healers are practising what they preach among the other millions of America, and even as a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump, so have they inspired the country with the spirit of Mrs. Eddy.
True faith will not let the body suffer. Mrs. Eddy says: "A person healed by Christian Science is not only healed of his disease, but he is advanced morally and spiritually" (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 34). This woman, the discoverer of a great truth, has been at least partly responsible for the better bodily and mental health of this country. Doctors did not do it, for they work on the body; Christian Science works on the mind, and the moral nature. There are no pessimists among Mrs. Eddy's followers; they preach and practise the doctrine of hope and good will. That the country is better and enjoying health, is due to the efforts of these Christian Scientists.
