Four years ago I had what materia medica called an exophthalmic goiter, and seemed to be getting worse all the time. An examination by our doctor brought the verdict that no medicine could help me, and he advised me to start at once for the one hospital where he felt the dangerous operation could be performed which he said was my only chance.
Just a day or two before this some remarkable cures through Christian Science had been brought to my attention, and although I had been very much opposed to what I thought it to be, I now decided to give it a trial, and at once asked for help. There was a slight improvement from the first, and I became so interested in the teachings of Science and Health that I never thought of the operation again. At the end of four months the disease had disappeared to its native nothingness, the heart action had become normal, and I began to gain in flesh. I found then the meaning of Jesus' words, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
Words can never express my gratitude for this beautiful demonstration of the power of divine Truth; but to be able to read the Bible understandingly, to know and to prove that God's promises in it can be realized here and now, is more than all else. My hope is that I may prove by my works my thankfulness for all that Christian Science means to me. My heart overflows with gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for bringing to us anew this truth which Christ Jesus taught and demonstrated.
