Fredonia (Kan.) Herald
In a recent issue, under the heading "Revival Sparks," we read, "In Christian Science there is neither Christ nor science." We are informed that this expression was used in a sermon by a clergyman who is conducting a series of meetings in your city. Our critic is but criticizing his own sense of Christian Science, and his statement shows quite clearly that he has failed to grasp its truth or its teachings. Christian Science is no new form of religion or worship; it is the reestablishing of primitive Christianity as taught and demonstrated by our Lord and Master, and practised by the early Christians for three centuries after the crucifixion of Christ Jesus.
All Christians claim to believe in the omnipotence and omnipresence of God; then why should it be thought impossible for Him to manifest His goodness to His creation today, the same as in the beginning? Is not God just as able to heal the sick as He is to redeem the sinner? The fact that Christ Jesus was able to perform many mighty works is proof positive that the same works may be wrought throughout all time by any and all who spiritually understand God's law; for God is "the same yesterday, and today, and forever," and Jesus said, "I am the way," that is, the way to be followed by all mankind.
Mrs. Eddy through years of faithful research and study of the Bible discerned the spiritual meaning of its teaching, and through this revelation of Truth she proved the verity of Jesus' words: "These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." The knowledge of God and the Christ as gained through the study of Christian Science causes mankind to hunger and thirst for the fruits of Spirit; awakens a desire to love one's neighbor as one's self and to do unto others as he would be done by. Those who understand and live the truth as taught in Christian Science are able to "prove all things; hold fast that which is good."
