I desire to acknowledge to the field at large my gratitude...
I desire to acknowledge to the field at large my gratitude for healing which occurred twelve years ago. In all this time, while my heart has been constantly overflowing with gratitude to God, and also to our beloved Leader, yet I have neglected to send my testimony to the Sentinel.
My healing came about in this way. After long years of invalidism, during which time I tried by the use of drugs and other material means to overcome fatigue, suffering, and pain, as these proved of no avail, I gave up in despair. This was Truth's opportunity! So-called hereditary liver trouble, chronic peritonitis, headaches, etc., were some of the names under which the adversary manifested itself. A copy of the Christian Science Sentinel came into my home at that time. I saw the name on the title-page, and threw it from me, for, like many others, I was prejudiced against my own false concept of Christian Science; but I soon found the paper in my hands again, for something impelled me to read it, and Truth began its leavening work from that moment.
I soon heard that testimony meetings were held in our city, and I was anxious to attend, for I now felt that Christian Science was my last hope. Not feeling strong enough to go alone, a friend went with me, and we found a pleasant room, where were gathered a few persons of various ages. I thought the talk good but visionary, and left the room utterly cast down, thinking I had sufficiently investigated Christian Science, the last resort, and found it wanting. Later, in coming into some understanding of the work of Truth in neutralizing error in the human consciousness, I knew the name and nature of the error which was then manifesting itself in me. The readers had spoken encouragingly to me and had given me some literature to read, which I had no intention of doing.
