[Written for the Sentinel.]

OPPORTUNITY

Who says I knock but once and pass
Ne'er to return, speaks not the truth.
I come from the e'er present One.
Dost think He gives only one chance
To His beloved? Wouldst limit God?
Admit me then, when at thy gate
I stop and knock. Shouldst thou not hear,
Grieve not, but hope; that very hope
Shall call me back and back again.
When thou art ready, thou wilt know
The time I come, nor need to fear
I'll pass thy door. Throw wide the gate
And bid me enter—I am here.
