[Written for the Sentinel.]

OPPORTUNITY

Who says I knock but once and passNe'er to return, speaks not the truth.I come from the e'er present One.Dost think He gives only one chanceTo His beloved? Wouldst limit God?Admit me then, when at thy gateI stop and knock. Shouldst thou not hear,Grieve not, but hope; that very hopeShall call me back and back again. When thou art ready, thou wilt knowThe time I come, nor need to fearI'll pass thy door. Throw wide the gateAnd bid me enter—I am here.
