THE LECTURES

Prof. Hermann S. Hering, who delivered a lecture on Christian Science in the Academy of Music, was introduced by Henry Beucus, first reader, who said: —

Nineteen hundred years ago Jesus of Nazareth brought to a sick and sin-burdened humanity a message of "on earth peace, good will toward men." The acceptance of his message made men free from the bondage of sickness and sin, and gave them a true understanding of God, whom to know aright is life everlasting. Jesus said: "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." On page 224 of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says: "A higher and more practical Christianity, demonstrating justice and meeting the needs of mortals in sickness and in health, stands at the door of this age, knocking for admission. Will you open or close the door upon this angel visitant, who cometh in the quiet of meekness, as he came of old to the patriarch at noonday?" We have one with us this evening who will tell us something about this higher Christianity.—Sterling Gazette.
