Words of thankfulness would be insufficient to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and mine. According to a physician's statement, my mother was afflicted with liver complaint, which often necessitated her staying in bed. She was unable to take any nourishment and had to submit to the regime prescribed by the physician. Moreover, her hands and feet were swollen. This condition made us all feel very unhappy, for even during the periods when she had no attacks we lived in a state of constant fear.
In 1907 one of my sisters who lived in Canada, and who is a Christian Scientist, came to see us. By her faith and her filial affection she succeeded in making our mother discard medicines and partake of all kinds of food, and taught her to have no fear save to offend God. Our mother was healed in a very short time, and at present, at the age of eightythree, she eats and sleeps well, and her health is good. Last year, with the help of a practitioner, she even undertook a long journey to her native country, and she experienced no inconvenience, whereas formerly she could not stand the journey on the railroad.
As for me, I have been healed of a chronic disease which caused me terrible suffering. In 1911 my husband, who became afflicted with a very acute form of rheumatism, relinquished material means, after having followed the prescriptions of his physician without experiencing any relief, and turned to God as his only resort. Our faith, however, being insufficient, like that of Peter, we were unable to help him, and therefore decided to ask assistance from a practitioner. To the great surprise of all our neighbors my husband promptly rose from his bed of pain, and he has had no return whatever of the trouble since, although a relapse was predicted by all his friends. The result is, that today he is convinced, as are we, of the healing efficacy of Christian Science. We would not exchange the understanding we have of this liberating truth for any material treasures, however great. Every Sunday the members of our family come together and hold the Christian Science service.
