The Morning Telegraph
I wish to take this opportunity to speak a word or so of praise for The Morning Telegraph. Recently I was in a small city in Oregon, and the little weekly paper there had a reprint of an article from your paper on the subject of Christian Science. While I am not a member of that church, the article was so just and wholesome that it appealed to me. Why should people not have the right to follow their religious convictions if it results in better health and morals?
It seems to me that the chief antagonism to the Christian Scientists is fostered by the American Medical Association. The recent shameful treatment of the Berlin physician, Dr. Friedmann, was also, it seems to me, engendered by their attitude. Despatches from Berlin now state that the Friedmann theory is being generally hailed as a boon to sufferers in Germany. Whether the remedy is a cure or not, does not justify the treatment accorded him. Physicians should be open-minded on all questions. Christian Science has stood the test for years. If it has curative qualities, I, as a physician, will certainly welcome it over the system which is now in a measure working in the dark. The Morning Telegraph is deserving of praise for its courageous stand on all public questions.
