Among the Churches
Current Notes
DES MOINES, IOWA .—Another Christian Science church is promised for Des Moines in the not far distant future. Twenty thousand dollars, which will be the nucleus for the new structure, is already in possession of the present church officials for this purpose. The money is the donation of a late member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, who left a farm of one hundred and eighty acres to the church, and this property is valued at about one hundred and ten dollars an acre. At the present rate of growth, Christian Scientists of this city feel that a new church will before many months be a necessity. During the last eighteen months the Sunday morning congregations have taxed the capacity of the present large edifice on Eighth street, although when the building was erected it was supposed that it would meet the needs for years to come.—The Register and Leader.
AUGUSTA, MAINE.—The Christian Scientist society has purchased the lot on Bowman street where the Springer Airdome now stands for the site of its new church, which will be built within the next year. The lot, comprising two acres, was sold for three thousand dollars.—Kennebec Journal.
