I feel a great desire to give thanks to God for all He has...
I feel a great desire to give thanks to God for all He has bestowed upon me and my family through Christian Science. Four years ago I experienced wonderful healing in several instances of throat trouble and in various attacks of illness with my children in St. Petersburg. Still, I groped in the dark, although I felt at the same time that Christian Science must be the truth, the way upon which I might draw near to God; but despite the diligent study of the Christian Science literature I often experienced a sense of discouragement. Two years ago, while I was staying in the country, in very inharmonious surroundings, I began to correspond with a practitioner in Dresden, and with her first letter came a wonderful sense of enlightenment which I can hardly describe,—the sudden dawning upon thought of the unreality of all suffering. With the help afforded by her letters I was enabled to make demonstrations for myself occasionally, and since then discouragement has become a thing of the past.
In cases of severe illness we had absent treatment from the kind practitioner, while the communication was kept up by letter and telegrams; but the greatest demonstration was in the spring of 1912, when I experienced an internal injury, as I am led to believe, by removing a heavy bookcase. The suffering was dreadful, and during one whole night I feared I would die from weakness; but every time my husband wired to the practitioner I felt relieved and was able to sleep. Although it seemed, to sense, that the case might terminate fatally, we never thought of calling in a physician, and in two weeks' time I recovered my former health. Another instance where a severe illness was overcome through absent treatment occurred with our daughter, who was taken with a serious throat trouble; moreover, no one in the household was affected by the contagion.
We are also very grateful for the demonstrations in a financial way of the power of Truth. It is a wonderful thing to realize that we should indeed take no thought for the next day, but abide in the consciousness that our Father in heaven is mindful of every one of His children. I cannot recount the many cases in which we have applied for help to our faithful practitioner; I can only say that in the whole range of human sufferings and weaknesses there is none which cannot be made to yield to the healing touch of Christian Science. I wish to give thanks to our heavenly Father, and also to express gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, for having been so patiently and lovingly led out of disease and discord, on my way to God and to harmony.—Frau Alla Pohle, St. Petersburg, Russia.
