Nearly eight years ago I underwent a severe operation for what was diagnosed as malignant disease. A year afterward it reappeared, and I was advised by my doctor to be operated upon again, but I refused, having suffered so much before. i continued to get worse until fifteen months ago, when a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was brought to the house. I at first read it out of curiosity, but I discovered what made the friend who gave me the book so quiet and peaceful, so different from other people,—for during the reading I was healed. At this time the doctor had given me only three months to live. I had never heard that the reading of this book healed people, and my surprise was therefore very great. The doctor examined me a little later at my husband's request, and to his astonishement there was no trace of the disease left.
A few months later I had a severe attack of illness which was overcome with a few treatments, whereas formerly I was in bed a month at a time with similar attacks. On this occasion I had my house full of visitors, and was able to be about all the time, so that no one but the friend who treated me knew anything of the condition.
I had also not been able to read without glasses for forty years, but after about six months in Christian Science I decided that the time had come for me to leave them off. I was able to do so after one treatment, and have never had them on since, now a period of five months, and I can see better than ever before. From childhood I had suffered from very severe headaches, sometimes being in bed for over a week, and no doctor was able to give me relief. It is now a long time since I have had a bad headache; if I wake with the old symptoms I am often able to overcome them myself in a few minutes.
