It is with a heart full of gratitude that I write these words of thanks for Christian Science. About five years ago I was healed of headaches, for which I had had medical advice and tried all sorts of remedies without gaining any relief, but after ten days' treatment from a Christian Science practitioner the headaches were quite gone, and have never returned.
For some time previously I had studied so-called mental science, and had looked askance at Christian Science and its followers. I had been to Christian Science services once or twice, and had read some parts of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy; but my thought was at that time quite unprepared to receive the truth, so I understood little of what I read in the text-book. A year later, through the loving and faithful work of the practitioner from whom I asked treatment for my headaches, the scales fell from my eyes, and I saw that Christian Science is the truth I had been seeking for many years. I was brought up in the evangelical faith, but became dissatisfied with it as I grew up, for I was baffled by the presence of so much suffering and apparent injustice in a world supposed to be ruled by a God of love. I could find no explanation of it all, and gradually gave up trying to have a religion, but I became interested in socialism and humanitarian movements. These too faield to satisfy me, because the work attempted was almost entirely on material lines.
Christian Science has solved all my difficulties. It has given me better health of body and more fitness for life's every-day duties. It is gradually healing me of fear and worry and unkind criticism of others. During the last five years I have taken no drugs nor special diet as I formerly did, and attacks of illness from colds have been met and healed by Christian Science treatment only. Above all, I am grateful for being able to prove through the teaching of Science and Health that God is Love, and that evil has no existence except as a false belief. This destroys the old belief that God is responsible for evil—that He permits it to be. Our text-book says, "The Science of Mind disposes of all evil;" also that "Christ came to destroy the belief of sin" (Science and Health, p. 473).
