New Castle (Ind.) Times

The opening at Indianapolis on Sunday [April 7] of a seventy-five-thousand-dollar edifice by the Christian Scientists is another reminder of the rapid and substantial growth of this religious organization. A few years ago, less than ten, Christian Science was regarded by outsiders as a religious fad that would soon wear out. Intsead of that, its growth has been faster than that of any other religious organization, and its adherents are gathered from the most intelligent classes, people who read and think. Christian Scientists do not hold revivals, do not work on the emotions or gather recruits while under mental stress.

The million or more adherents of the movement form a militant organization that is exerting an immense influence on the religious thought of the country. Church extension is carried on largely by lectures and literature, both highly successful, judging by results. In this city of New Castle the little society, started three or four years ago, has maintained a steady growth, and nobody need be surprised to hear of a church building here in the next few years. The writer is not of this society, but their methods must command respect and their growth the admiration of fair-minded people.
