It is a pleasant duty to give even a partial list of the many blessings which Christian Science has brought to me, through the help of a kind practitioner and the understanding of God gained by the study of the Bible and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I have also been helped by the reading of our periodicals and the study of the Lesson-Sermon.

I was taken very ill about nine years ago with a stomach trouble, and everything was done to alleviate my suffering, but nothing seemed to benefit me much. The distressing attacks were liable to come on at any time, and cause me intense suffering, and this went on until I was a physical wreck. I was many times urged to go to a hospital, as it was believed I was suffering from gall-stones, but this I refused to do. I went from bad to worse and feared all kinds of food, till at last I was confined to a rigid diet; but I suffered just the same, until I had become a mere shadow of my former self, and my family and friends expected me to pass on at any time with one of these attacks. I had suffered for months from sleeplessness, also from severe headaches that seemed to prostrate me, although I always kept a supply of medicine on hand because I dreaded the attacks.

This was my condition when Christian Science was brought to my notice by a dear lady who had been healed by it. She came to my home through the invitation of a friend who was not herself interested in Science. I was at that time a member of another church, and she felt some hesitation about talking to me, but decided to come and give a cup of cold water in Christ's name. She lovingly told me of this wonderful truth; and as she talked to me I knew it was the truth, and I drank in all she had to give. She finally told me she would lend me her copy of Science and Health if I cared to read it, and I replied that I would be more than glad to do so. She very kindly brought it to me the next day, and I began to read it and found it was what I had been longing for. I read for hours and I began to improve from the first day, but finally I had to be tested so as to know whether my house was built on the rock, Christ Jesus, or on shifting sand. One night, about midnight, I found myself in the grasp of the old enemy, and I had not then gained sufficient understanding to help myself. We were unable to reach a practitioner, so a doctor was called and he administered the old remedy, an opiate. I was soon sleeping and was in a dazed condition all the next day, which was Sunday. On Monday I wrote a practitioner and asked for help. She lovingly responded and I was healed instantly. Health and harmony were restored and I have remained well since. This was over two and a half years ago, and it was my last dose of medicine, internal or external.
