ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The following is an acknowledgment of benefits received from The Christian Science Monitor. The writer had a legal matter upon which he wanted honest and competent advice, and on looking up the Thanksgiving number of the Monitor (this was eight months after this number was printed) he found the name of an attorney to whom he went and received satisfactory advice and information. At the same time he had been asked by friends to attempt to locate or get information about a property that could be purchased. On advising this attorney about the further information desired, he called up a firm known to be reliable, from whom the property was purchased. It was in a most desirable location and the price was satisfactory. All this was the result of an advertisement of only a few lines, but it showed clearly the advantage of advertising in the Monitor, a newspaper with a permanent value.

The writer has had much experience in business, and can recognize the possible benefits to be gained by both the advertiser and the reader. When we stop for a moment to think that the Monitor is the only periodical issued by The Christian Science Publishing Society which carries advertisements pertaining to matters outside of the Christian Science movement, is it any wonder that there should be splendid returns not only to the advertisers, but to the readers as well; hence its value to those who have something to sell as well as those who wish to purchase. It is well known that nearly all periodicals depend largely upon their advertising columns for their support. May this not also be true of the Monitor, which is practically upon the same basis as other daily papers as to price, news, method of circulation, etc.? This being admitted, are we as Christian Scientists doing our duty by only subscribing for this most valuable paper? Should we not also be interested in its advertising columns, and even read its advertisements? In this way we may give our loving help to very many, and thereby carry forward our beloved Leader's efforts to help all mankind. The information which we gain from the Monitor pertaining to buying or selling, renting or locating, information as to professions, arts, or what not, we should gladly pass on to others, and also be ready to inform advertisers of the fact that we had learned of them through this leading daily paper of the world.

The value of the Monitor in giving reliable information in the way of dependable news about business and politics, and thereby quieting the fears frequently caused by pessimistic and non-dependable information sent out by those who may be interested in the circulation of such news, is inestimable. It gives us the best about men, movements, and national interests, to say nothing of the many other good things too numerous to mention, thereby strengthening our trust in God and man. Hence the writer, for one, is resolved not only to continue as a subscriber, but also to continue to read the paper and follow its advancing thought, helping thereby the continuous growth of interest in The Christian Science Monitor.
