Some ten years ago Christian Science healed me of an abscess which had formed where I had been operated upon for appendicitis the year before. At that time the practitioner requested me to learn the "scientific statement of being" as found on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and I mention this healing gratefully to show how true are the words of our loved Leader, when she says on page 111 of "Miscellaneous Writings," "Leaving the seed of Truth to its own vitality, it propagates: the tares cannot hinder it."

Shortly after this healing, however, I began to allow one thing and another to crowd out my study of the Bible and Science and Health, until I finally stopped reading them altogether and began to wonder whether Christian Science had really healed me of anything. I had never been very strong, and from this time my health grew steadily worse, until I was operated upon by two of the best surgeons in this part of the country, who honestly and faithfully used all their skill to relieve me of my suffering, but their work was of no avail. I gained some strength, but constant pain continued, and will-power seemed my only help. When this failed utterly, and the suffering seemed beyond human endurance, whisky and morphine were resorted to.

At this time I was employed as teacher of piano and pipe organ in a conservatory of music, and was doing some organ concert work, when I suddenly lost the use of my right arm. This calamity, added to the mental and physical anguish I was undergoing, was too much for me. I had left the school one noon, determined to make an end of it all, when suddenly there came to my consciousness, as though some one were speaking directly to me, the words, "Christian Science helped you once, and it will do it again." I soon procured a Bible, Science and Health, and Quarterly, and returning to the school I literally drank in the truth contained in our inspired text-book. I asked for treatment, and in three weeks was using my arm freely. In six weeks I was completely and permanently healed of the trouble for which I had been operated upon.
