In disparaging the Biblical account of creation given in the first chapter of Genesis, as the basis for Christian Science, the critic no doubt satisfies a leaning toward skepticism as to the whole trend of Christian effort. The believer in Christian Science is obtaining direct and satisfying results from this teaching, which takes this account of creation as the true one which is to be recognized today in working out of the belief that evil is real either as included in the nature of the creator or permitted by Him to exist. It means much to the Christian Scientist what kind of the foundation he builds on.

The critic's statement that the prayers of the entire Christian Science church will not heal diphtheria or pneumonia, indicates a lack of information as to the method or extensiveness of the healing. It is not the collective prayer of any church or churches in this denomination that is resorted to, but rather the individual understanding of the presence and power of God. Many cases of the above mentioned diseases have been healed in this way. Knowing many instances of similar experiences, I can only regret that our critic should feel impelled to use his pen to discourage the hope of those who are looking for practical results from reliance upon God.
