I have read in a recent issue an article in which Christian Science is referred to as a freak religion. It is not at all clear why such a term is used in connection with Christian Science, and I will ask you to allow me to point out that, far from being anything in the nature of abnormal, Christian Science is preeminently normal; indeed, it is nothing more or less than the reiteration of the teaching of Christ Jesus.
It is true that Christian Science goes farther than any other system, in so far as it maintains that true Christianity includes practise as well as preaching. Two thousand years ago, Jesus the Christ, looked upon by all Christians as the great Wayshower, taught his immediate disciples and the crowds who were willing to listen to him, that the understanding of the law of God included freedom from sickness as well as from sin. Jesus and his disciples not only taught but proved this, and the Master declared also, with much emphasis, that those who understood his teaching would be able to do, not only the works, but greater works, than he did.
It would be difficult to find anything in the nature of a freak in a system which declares and proves that what Jesus taught and demonstrated is as true and practical now as then. It is true that the teaching of the Master was by no means universally accepted, especially by those who were unable to believe that there could be anything capable of improving upon the theology and medical systems in vogue at that time. So it is today that some people are unable to grasp the fact that far more can be accomplished through spiritual or scientific means than has ever been accomplished by all the material systems which mankind has devised through all the ages.
