Christian Science stands on its own merits, and its adherents...
Jewish Weekly
Christian Science stands on its own merits, and its adherents are those who have come, not by persuasion, enticement, or argument in words, but as the result of the demonstration of its teachings, which have brought surcease from pain, suffering, sickness, disease, sorrow, and sin, and have lifted consciousness to a clearer apprehension of the one God and man's unity with Him, susceptible of practicable demonstration and application in daily life. They say, as did Paul: "And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. ... And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: that your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."
A Christian Scientist judges no one but himself. His life practise is devoted not to criticism and condemnation of his neighbor of whatever faith, but to the betterment of his own consciousness and life, so that by the example of his daily conduct he may give proof of the potency of his faith; as Jesus said, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Christian Science is not responsible for the individual statements of any single one of the thousands of its adherents, any more than is any religion to be judged by isolated utterances of those who have a mistaken impression of its teachings. When mankind attains to the realization of the one God and only one, and lives in obedience to His commandments,—and the principal one is to love his neighbor as himself,—he will have no need for a discussion of his creed or sect, nor will there be opportunity for any of any creed or sect to say, "I am holier than thou."
