Words fail to express my gratitude for the benefits I have received through Christian Science. Before hearing of this truth I had a very serious illness which was said to be tuberculosis of the kidneys, my doctor advising the removal of one kidney, as medicine could not do me any good. I underwent an operation, but the kidney was not removed, owing to my being in such a low state. I was in the infirmary and convalescent home three months. When I returned home a nurse attended me every day to dress the wound in my back, which had not healed, and the doctor came once a week. Twelve months elapsed from the time of the operation, during which time I suffered severe pain.

I had not made any progress toward recovery, but was gradually getting worse and worse, when my doctor advised a second operation. This greatly disturbed me, and the thought struck me one night, "Who is it that cures us when all is said and done? It is not the doctors. Why not, then, trust to God to cure me?" I saw that I had not been trusting God while thinking that medicine and surgery could do the work. A passage from the Bible came to me, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world," and this filled me with a great hope. I knew that I should get better again. I told a friend who had my welfare very much at heart about my thoughts, but he seemed to regard this as anything but a good sign and was very despondent because of what I had told him. When he went home he prayed for me, and on raising his head the first thing he saw was a newspaper with an article which related to Christian Science. He brought the cutting to me the following evening and asked me to read it, which I did. I cannot express the uplifting feeling that came over me, and I exclaimed, "Oh, this is an answer to all our prayers!" My friend said the same thought had occurred to him.

I went to see a Christian Science practitioner a day or two afterward. From the first treatment all pain left me. In a short time I was able to give up the doctor and nurse, and the wound in my back, which had not progressed at all under medical treatment, healed beautifully when left completely to God's care. I was healed at the same time of catarrh, from which I had suffered about ten years. My joy and thankfulness for this splendid demonstration of God's love and care can be imagined, for now I am perfectly healthy and free. From the time of first hearing of Christian Science, over two years ago, I have had no return of the above troubles. The promise of Christ Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," has been fulfilled for me. I know that God recognizes no sickness or imperfection in what He has created; therefore I, as God's child, should not do so either.
