For some time I have felt it was my duty to express...
For some time I have felt it was my duty to express publicly my gratitude for all the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science. In March, 1909, I was stricken with a nervous collapse which lasted about seven months. I then got some relief, but in September I was taken with a very severe bowel trouble, which lasted until December. My physician did all he could for me, then told me that he wanted me to see a specialist; so I went to Portland to do so. I came home xhausted, took to my bed, and grew worse for two weeks. The last night of my suffering two doctors were with me from midnight until morning, and they decided to take me to hospital as soon as my strength would permit.
My daughter, however, was very much opposed to my going, as she has a dread of hospitals, and had faith in Christian Science. She telephoned to a practitioner in Auburn, who came in the afternoon. I was very sick all night, but in the morning I was much better, sat up a short while, and took Science and Health and began to read it. From that time I grew better so fast that in three days the bowel trouble was overcome and I was sitting up nearly all day, something I had not done for two weeks.
In seven days I went downstairs and ate dinner with the family. This was the middle of December, and I had not eaten any solid food for four months. I began to eat anything that the rest did which I wanted, and nothing hurt me at all. In just seven weeks from the time the Christian Science practitioner came to me I went to the shop to work on my old job, a well woman.
