Christian Science healing is the result of spiritual understanding,...
Northern Mail
Christian Science healing is the result of spiritual understanding, and those who are healed by it can say with the apostle, "I know whom I have believed." Christian Scientists hope that the medical men of this country will never have anything to do with mental suggestion, nor encourage its practice in any way, because mental suggestion is the worst enemy that mankind must overcome and learn to destroy. It is a cause of sickness, but never its cure. According to the theory of hypnotism, the hypnotist may suggest something pleasant to one person and something wicked to another.
The word "faith" as used in Christian Science means understanding, and to understand the truth is to have faith in the truth. Christian Science healing is attained through a scientific understanding of God, man, and the universe, and there is one thing that prevents its abuse—it must be lived in order to be practised. The demands of the Bible must be obeyed, and pride, self-righteousness, selfishness, conceit, envy, and malice must be uprooted and cast out. There is no permanent healing except that gained by the understanding which comes through God—divine Mind. Paul said: "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." This is as true today as it was then, and in time all Christians will tell whether their understanding is correct by the results which follow.
