PERFECT THOUGHT-MODELS

The opposition of the carnal mind to the idea of spiritual perfection only goes to prove that this so-called mind is made up of elements that are not related to spirituality. Hence the admonition of the apostle, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

The very first step in this mental transformation is the giving up of imperfect for perfect "thought-models." (See Science and Health, p. 259.) The mission of Christian Science is to present such models to the world, and he who rejects this Science is but expressing his own disbelief in spiritual perfection. The command of Christ Jesus to be perfect as the Father in heaven is perfect has for him no practical meaning, and he is very positive in his assertions that perfection does not apply to him in this present world. What the future may have in store for him he deems contingent only upon his leaving this world, rather than upon the life that he now leads. He has, in other words, no intelligent grasp of man's unity with God, and because of this mental deficiency he does not realize the need of accurate thought-models, but is content to dwell upon the imperfections and counterfeits of material sense.

Passing strange that a so-called intelligent human being should take particular pride in identifying himself with the myriad forms of evil which he admits do not exist in the divine Mind; that he should delight in magnifying his belief in evil and in relegating good and its perfections to the realm of the intangible and unreal! Is this not proof that "God [the perfect One] is not in all his thoughts"? Many there be who claim to believe in God, and yet who vigorously denounce their concept of the teaching of Christian Science, which is rooted and grounded in spiritual perfection, goodness, and power. Standing thus in their own light, they reject the divine Principle of perfection, the acceptance of which would lead them into the kingdom of heaven on earth. Only through spiritual transformation can this chaos of human unbelief in all that is good, pure, and perfect dissolve and man's true individuality become manifest in an intelligent, sympathetic recognition and acceptance of all that makes for perfection.
