It is with sincere gratitude that I desire to speak of the great blessings that have come to me through Christian Science. About seven years ago I visited some dear relatives in a western city, and seeing the benefits they had derived from Christian Science, I returned home desirous of knowing what had accomplished such wonderful results. I purchased a copy of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and threw away the medicine I had always kept on hand for severe attacks of stomach trouble with which I was then suffering and which were accompanied with periodical attacks of headache. I had sought aid from both schools of physicians, who informed me that I must diet in order to get well.
I became discouraged, as all the material remedies tried had failed to heal me, and I sought aid of a Christian Science practitioner. I was helped immediately, but was not entirely healed until many months afterward. By the persistent effort and kind encouragement of the practitioner, I was led to see more and more of the truth that makes free, and now I can say, "Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." I can eat anything I desire without any sense of suffering. I have been healed of bowel and throat trouble, and have been able to lay aside glasses which I had worn for some time.
One day my mother was suffering intensely with an affection of the eyelids, and asked me if Christian Science could help her. A practitioner was called, and before giving her treatment he asked her if there was anything else she would like to mention. She informed him that she had suffered for thirty years with hemorrhoids. In less than one week both of these conditions were entirely overcome. My mother had been informed that there was no help for the latter except an operation, to which she would not consent. It is impossible to enumerate all the blessings which come to us daily. Christian Science not only brings freedom from physical conditions, but it teaches us how to weed out the undesirable traits of character, and in their stead to plant seeds of kindness, patience, and love, and thus "put off the old man with his deeds" and "put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him."
