THE RIGHT SPIRIT

A work of genius is so simple that a child may comprehend its message. The great artist has overcome personal presumption. He humbly obeys the behests of the principle of his art and admits its expression. Our beloved Leader names humility as the genius of Christian Science (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 356); and in our endeavor to follow her teaching we learn that when we do all lovingly and humbly, we may "stand still" and see God's glory in His expression or image,—His Son. Thus does His love radiate through a life consecrated to good work. There are elements of consecration in our hearts. They are the impulses for good ever seeking expression. Alertness to opportunity is one of our duties. The present moment's sacrifice may reveal the golden link in the chain which unites our privileged service with God's plan and purpose.

The gentle vein of mercy of which the poet writes brings forth the sweet perfume of justice in the earth beneath. The quality of mercy nurtures our judgments, so that the dispensations of wisdom in our office become living waters, imparting health, happiness, holiness—never suffering. Truly we are kings and priests unto God, as we come into the kingdom of righteousness through the gateway of Christian Science, and our priesthood becomes after the order of Melchisedec, "King of peace." The pattern showed to us in the mount is the justice which we as kings unto God have to uphold, and the new commandment, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself," is the sweet aftermath from Him who "so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

This is the hour of liquidation, when our debt of gratitude to the giver of all good may be paid. Christian Science has come to us as a gracious gift, and in the lives of those who have accepted its teaching are appearing the fruits of Spirit: "Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance." Christian Scientists love God and His message, and they love His messenger and can say from their heart of hearts the words with which John closed his writing of the revelation: "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all."
