It is with a very grateful heart that I write this testimony for the Sentinel. First, I should like to say that there are very many here in this town who have been helped and healed in Christian Science. Some give their testimonies at the Wednesday evening meetings, but very few write them for our publications; though they would do so, I am sure, if they only knew the help it is to others to read of this wonderful healing truth and of the many lasting benefits it brings to one and all.

Some time ago, when suffering from a severe form of blood-poisoning, I went to a doctor, who gave me medicine to take and said that I would require great care and many months of medical treatment. The medicine I took for three days very reluctantly, and never having had much faith in drugs, I decided to go to a friend in Maritzburg, a Christian Scientist, and find out from her if anything could be done for me. She at once kindly offered to help me, and lent me a copy of Science and Health, which I eagerly studied, and soon realized the wonderful power of Truth and the allness of God. I cast away all medicines and trusted implicitly to Him to heal me, and although at the time I was suffering acutely, I had no fear. In a very short time I was quite healed.

Words cannot express my gratitude for the many benefits I have received from Christian Science. I was also a great sufferer from rheumatism, having had a severe attack some years ago, and always periodical attacks. I could never venture out in wet weather, nor get my feet damp, without suffering terribly for days. Several times lately I have been out in heavy rains and got wet through, but I have never had a twinge of pain. I had also suffered with a delicate throat since I was a child and was continually in the hands of doctors. My throat is now quite well and strong, for which I am most thankful; also for the greatest blessing of all, the spiritual understanding,—to know that God is an ever-present help in trouble, and that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health, p. 494).
