[Written for the Sentinel.]

A BENEDICTION

Give to God His crowning glory,
Love tells thee how.
Lisp again the old, old story,
Love's hour is now.
Sing thy songs of praise forever,
They will cheer thy lone endeavor;
Yield to Truth, to error, never;
Love shows thee how.

Have thy days grown dark and dreary?
Stand firm and know.
Ye shall run and not be weary,
Love tells thee so.
Know the truth, and in thy knowing
Reap the harvest of thy sowing;
Unto thee all good is flowing—
Stand firm and know.

Out upon the sea of gladness
Christ walks with thee.
Love hath borne away thy sadness;
Peace comforts thee.
In the morning's radiant beaming,
Far beyond this mortal seeming,
All thy fondest hopes redeeming,
Good waits for thee.
