I would like to tell what Christian Science has done for...
I would like to tell what Christian Science has done for me. As I was going after a load of wood, I had what to mortal sense was a very bad accident. I was sitting on the reach of the wagon, and when going down hill, the brake caught my legs and held me tight. As I had no control of the horses, I was dragged about five rods before I could stop them.
The first thought I had was, "God help me." I had to lift the weight of the wagon and work myself out, which took about a half hour. I then pulled the wagon to one side of the road and went home. After I had unharnessed the horses, I went to the house, and although my wife when she came to the door saw that something had happened, all the time she was declaring the truth for me. I sat down in a chair while my wife cut the felt boots off my feet, which were badly swollen and twisted out of shape; but all this time I had walked on them they did not pain me much, as there was a sense of numbness, and I knew that Truth was helping me. When the boots were removed I twisted my feet the way they should be, and as I turned them the bone seemed to snap like a pistol shot, and to my surprise went into its proper place; but I knew it was only natural for God's child to have every bone in its right position.
I read Science and Health and asked my wife to treat me, and we both read and reread the Lesson-Sermon together. The neighbors came to see me the next day, and told me I would not be able to walk for more than six months. They said I ought to have a doctor, but I told them I would rather depend on God, the great Physician, who, as it says in the Bible, heals all our diseases. I sat in the chair for two days, and then I could push a chair to the bed. On the third day a man made me some crutches, and I used them for about a week. I finally got so I could walk without them, and that was only two weeks later. Thanks be to God for this healing, and to Mrs. Eddy, whose book, Science and Health, makes everything so plain that the Bible can be understood in the right way.
