I first learned of Christian Science in the fall of 1886
I first learned of Christian Science in the fall of 1886. I was then suffering from a distressing nervous trouble, and had been for many years, being unable to get relief through material means. I also had other serious troubles, which the physician said only an operation could relieve. I was obliged to wear a support—had worn it five years. Besides these ills I was in bondage to colds and wore a large piece of flannel on my chest winter and summer. This and the support were removed after a talk of two hours with one who had been healed of a distressing stomach trouble by the reading of Science and Health; then many minor troubles also disappeared. My life was made miserable by many sins of disposition, and these did not yield readily; but now many are gone, and I know in due time the rest will disappear.
I am grateful for the physical healing, but even more grateful for the better understanding of God and man's relation to Him. We have had many proofs of the truth of Christian Science, as we have relied absolutely upon it during these years, even when the results seemed slow and required much courage and patience. We are grateful indeed to dear Mrs. Eddy. I know the deepest appreciation and gratitude for Christian Science is manifest in the daily living of it.
Mrs. Alida D. Joynes, Grand Rapids, Mich.
