TRUTH'S MISSION

When a so-called new and redemptive truth at first declares its message to the world, it is often classed with the very evils it has come to destroy, and finds its enemies among those whom its mission is to save. This rejection of the blessing is not in evidence that mortals mean to be cruel and unjust, but that false sense has become so established, has so monopolized the thought of men, that they have come to look upon the ideal as but a visionary promise, too fair to be realized, "too good to be true." The message of Truth must, however, sooner or later win its way into the hearts and confidence of those ready to receive it, and those who are honestly looking for higher ideals, and longing for more spiritual conditions upon which to lean, will find their need met in Christian Science, the Christ-message which is misrepresented, as of old, through an entire misapprehension of its meaning and ministry.

Christian Science is provable Christianity. It is manifestly good because it does good, and it is from God for the same simple reason. Better and healthier men and women, better and happier husbands and wives, more dutiful and obedient children, are among the first fruits of its teaching and growth; these are the many witnesses whose improved conditions bear record of its truth. On page 483 of Science and Health we read from the inspired pen of its author: "If any system honors God, it ought to receive aid, not opposition, from all thinking persons. And Christian Science does honor God as no other theory honors Him, and it does this in the way of His appointing, by doing many wonderful works through the divine name and nature."

Christian Scientists recognize that they are followers of the Master, of him who spake as never man spake, only so far as they can in some degree prove their faith by their works, as he did in full by teaching and demonstrating complete salvation from sickness, sin, and death. To those who have accepted it, Christian Science has brought infinite blessings,—a consciousness of God near at hand, a kinder attitude toward all mankind, through the unfolding of the kingdom of heaven within. They have found a simple, practical religion; compassionate and Christ-like; which brings to tired and suffering hearts a message of courage, hope, peace, and good will.
