Christian Science came to me a little over two years ago, at a time when I needed help and needed it badly, for everything seemed to go wrong, no matter how hard we tried to do right. I had never been considered very strong, and was recovering from what the doctors called a nervous collapse. I was feeling very bitter, because I thought that if we are given work to do, we should be given the strength with which to do it. Just here, however, I was led to call upon a lady who is a Scientist and to tell her some of my difficulties; also that I wanted to know about Christian Science, if it had anything better to offer than the husks upon which I had been trying to subsist. Only those who have had a similar experience can appreciate the great relief I felt when I understood that God does not make evil, disease, and death, but only good, and that it is not His will that we should suffer or be unhappy.

After that I attended several Wednesday evening meetings and the Sunday morning services quite regularly, my husband going with me, and began to read "Miscellaneous Writings," by Mrs. Eddy. It was while reading this that I suddenly realized all my physical ailments had left me, including a severe cold which I had contracted a short time before, and I was free! I could do any amount of work, household or the teaching of music, and never seemed to feel tired. When I think of all the blessings that have come to me through Christian Science, I exclaim with David, "Mary, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, ... they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered."

My gratitude to God, and to our Leader, can best be expressed by trying to follow the teachings of the Bible as explained in Science and Health, which is indeed the "Key to the Scriptures;" for while I had been taught to read the Bible and had memorized a great deal of it, I did not understand it, or the ministry of Christ Jesus, and only read it because I thought I ought to; but for the last two years I have read little besides the Bible, Science and Health and other works by Mrs. Eddy, also the Sentinel, Journal, and Monitor, which are such a great help to us in our passage from sense to Soul.
