That omnipotence (God) is available by man to obtain...

Stamford (Conn.) Advocate

That omnipotence (God) is available by man to obtain relief from the ills of the flesh, should not be surprising when we consider that but a comparatively few years ago fully as much doubt was expressed over the claims made by those who advocated the use of steam, electricity, etc., and many other things now so common to us. The fundamental facts upon which steam and electricity are made to be of such service to mankind were in existence long before a railroad was built, a telegram written, or a telephone thought of, for these facts always existed. Men simply failed to utilize them.

It is the same with the Principle of Christian Science. Because of a lack of apprehension, men had neglected to avail themselves of that which has always been their right to enjoy, even man's birthright, which is referred to in the 26th verse of the 1st chapter of Genesis: "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion," etc. It must be clear that this dominion can be obtained only by complying with certain rules or conditions; and, since God is the one and only creator, and it is His laws which govern all, it then follows that it is God's law which must be conformed to. Jesus showed us how to live in accord with God's laws. He was the Wayshower, and he lived in strict compliance with God's spiritual laws. In doing this he ignored and nullified all manner of prevailing belief, recognizing nothing as authority to govern him but God. Since it was Jesus' purpose to show by practical demonstration how man should live, if God had intended that man should take medicine to heal sickness Jesus would have surely used drugs in his healing work.

Furthermore, it is an inconceivable proposition that a God of all good, of love, our Father, would create the earth and not provide sufficient and adequate means for men to cope with problems of life. This is clearly an unthinkable proposition. Jesus' life and works show beyond all question that dominion is given man, as recorded in Genesis, and that this dominion becomes available in so far as men obey God's laws; that is, Jesus taught and demonstrated the practicality of living in obedience to the laws of God, and showed the results of such living to be not only happiness but health.
