THE LECTURES

Frank H. Leonard lectured on Christian Science at the Beldorf Theater March 28. He was introduced as follows by Mrs. Josephine Campbell, Second Reader of the local church:—

From the beginning of human experience mortals have been searching for the one true God, whom to know aright "is life eternal," as our Master said. Failing to find Him, many idols have been built up in mortal thought, all endowed with power according to one's faith in them. We in and of the flesh are all idolators, despite the fact that infinite Truth has always been here and is ever ready to guide and enlighten the human consciousness out of its own darkness. We smile at the ignorance of the heathen worship of idols, whether they be of wood or stone, and thank God we are not as they are; but if we turn our attention from them to our own mortal mentalities, we discover many idols other than wood or stone to which we have been, willingly or unwillingly, obedient slaves. Fear, anger, hatred, malice, envy, jealousy, revenge, sin,—these are the recognized masters of the human race and are the underlying cause of sickness, disease, and death. Any one of these conditions, in proportion to one's belief in it, is sufficient to destroy health, harmony, and success. In the measure of our receptivity of the true knowledge and understanding of God, as revealed to us through Christian Science, we are enabled to dethrone these false idols and to say with the psalmist, "Who is so great a God as our God?" We have with us tonight one who will tell us something of this great truth.—Correspondence.
