For the past fifteen years I have observed the effect of Christian Science on those who study and practise it, and I have never known nor heard of a person becoming insane as a result of such study and practice; but I have known of many persons being healed of insanity through Christian Science. That which heals insanity cannot cause it. No person ever contemplated God more or knew more of God than did Christ Jesus. Did such knowledge make him insane? Did not his understanding of God's allness, presence, and power enable him to heal the insane man "whom no man could bind"? Christian Science teaches the omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence of God. Can such knowledge and contemplation of God produce different results now from what it did in Jesus' time?

Some persons "naturally of somewhat unstable mental make-up" may have experimented with Christian Science and in their insane moments talked about it, but it would be unfair and hurtful to say that Christian Science caused their insanity. Many insane persons have become "precipitately" worse under medical treatment. Shall it be charged that the medical treatment was the cause of their insanity? There are thousands of insane persons in the asylums who never heard of Christian Science.

It is a rather foul aspersion on the fair name and on the purifying, healing, and redemptive influence of Christian Science to classify it with such material and disease producing causes as immorality and alcohol. The lives of Christian Scientists bear present and invincible witness to the fact that Christian Science produces the highest morality, temperance, health, and sanity.
