The Scriptures record that Jesus' life-work was one of...
Salina (Kan.) Journal
The Scriptures record that Jesus' life-work was one of regeneration; he healed the sick, he redeemed the sinner, he raised the dead; and he said of those who believed on him, "The works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to my Father." It is a historical fact that for three centuries after the crucifixion of Jesus, Christian people—followers of his precepts and example—did these same works, until through materialism and sensuality the Christ, Truth, was lost to mankind.
Mortals in bondage to sin, sickness, and death, wandered in the darkness of materiality until the Christ-healing was rediscovered by Mrs. Eddy some forty years ago. In speaking of this discovery in her book Science and Health, on page 109 she says: "For three years after my discovery, I sought the solution of this problem of Mind-healing, searched the Scriptures and read little else, kept aloof from society, and devoted time and energies to discovering a positive rule. The search was sweet, calm, and buoyant with hope, not selfish nor depressing. I knew the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God."
Christian Scientists take their stand upon the First Commandment: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." That God is Spirit—divine Mind—and man is His image and likeness. Thus, to be a genuine Christian Scientist, one must "be a thorough Christian." What would be thought of one who did not understand the principle and rules of mathematics, yet tried to explain to others the application of numbers? It is just as impossible for one who cannot demonstrate the teachings of Christian Science to explain it to others. While Christian Scientists are always ready to speak to those who "hunger and thirst after righteousness" of the blessings which have come to them, they do not proselyte, they do not attempt to interfere with other denominations; they grant unto all others that which they claim for themselves, that is, the right to worship God according to their own conscience.
