Two years ago my attention was directed to Christian Science through the marvelous healing of a very dear friend. Shortly after this I read a book written against Christian Science, and this further aroused my interest. I borrowed the book written by Mrs. Eddy. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and read it through carefully. I was surprised not to find in it any of the extraordinary things of which I had heard and read. I did not then understand its teachings, but I rejoiced that a woman had done something of this kind.

I had always longed to be an earnest Christian, but although I had gone through all the forms and ceremonies and tried my best in the orthodox way, I did not like to read the Bible, nor did I love Jesus as I wished to do. I then began to read the Christian Science Sentinel and Journal, and the articles made me feel much happier; still Christian Science was so new to me, and so different from anything I had ever known, that I thought it would be best to ask some of my church friends about it, and their ignorance of the subject, their bitterness and prejudice toward it, made me more interested than ever. Then I met some Christian Scientists out West, and their kindness, broadness, cheerfulness, culture, and common sense appealed to me I liked the atmosphere of their homes, and I began to realize that these people had something in their lives which neither wealth, family, nor position could bring. I wondered what they had that gave such peace to their homes, such kindness to their deeds and such joy to their faces.

So I began seriously to investigate the subject, to study Science and Health, and I was surprised to find that Christian Science satisfactorily answered questions which I had been asking all my life. I was surprised to find one thing in this world that was altogether beautiful, without prejudice, without fear, with only love and good will toward all; surprised to find at last one thing which came up to my highest ideals in every respect. I had suffered from insomnia for many years, but I was relieved of it by having one treatment in Christian Science, and by the reading of the 91st Psalm. My children have been healed of chills, of torpid liver, and various other ills.
