About eighteen years ago, Christian Science came to...
About eighteen years ago, Christian Science came to our family through the healing of a cousin, after years of invalidism. My mother, soon after learning of this cousin's healing, purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and though from the first reading I accepted Christian Science as the truth, my study and application of it was but desultory for several years. Physical suffering finally caused me to make a more determined effort to understand this healing truth, and almost immediately it was revealed to me that my lack of understanding was in a great measure due to my failure to take a decided stand for Christian Science. While listening to the remarks of an earnest student of Christian Science and a faithful pioneer of the work in this vicinity, I made the mental resolve to stand on Mrs. Eddy's platform, whether my physical ills were overcome or not, because I knew it to be the truth. The result was the almost instantaneous healing of neuralgia, from which I had suffered more or less from childhood, and which had at that time reached a serious and critical point, holding me in bondage to a powerful drug for relief. From that time to the present I have had but one attack of the disease, and that was of but a few hours' duration.
Since Christian Science has taught me to look to God for my health, strength, intelligence—for everything that presents itself as a need—I have had many beautiful proofs that the Scriptural promises are for us to realize today. I am rejoicing daily in a clearer understanding of God and of the true mission of Christian Science, In cheerful, willing service in the Cause of Christian Science, I feel I can most effectively prove my gratitude to God for the gift of divine Love, and to Mrs. Eddy for her life of purity and devotion
