I have been healed of rheumatism, catarrh, stomach...
I have been healed of rheumatism, catarrh, stomach trouble, and the tobacco habit. Like many others, I came to Christian Science through suffering, after having exhausted all material remedies, having had numerous doctors in this and in many southern cities; besides taking a course of treatment at some celebrated hot springs, with little benefit and no permanent relief. I finally resorted to Christian Science, and while I did not know anything about it or have any faith in it at the time, I have learned to know that it is the truth, and have felt for some time that I wanted to add my testimonial, hoping that it may stimulate and strengthen some weary searcher for health and happiness.—W. P. Adkins, Richmond, Va.
For the past three years Christian Science has been my only help in sickness and trouble, and I have found it a panacea for every ill. Truly "another Comforter" has come, as the Master promised, and will abide with us forever. I became convinced of the value of Christian Science after my husband was healed of illness of years' standing. He even resorted to the "gold-cure" without avail, and his life seemed not worth living. As a last resort he was persuaded to try Christian Science, but having little or no confidence in its power to heal, he reluctantly read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader. Man's extremity is, however, God's opportunity, and his healing came with his regeneration; old things have passed away and the habits of a lifetime no longer find place in his consciousness. Along with his physical healing the tobacco habit left him and his nature was transformed. Now, his most constant companion is Science and Health, which has taught us all the power of Truth, and enabled us to understand the Bible better, for which we can never express half the gratitude we feel. On Christmas morning (1908) I had arranged a visit to my home people at a nearby city, but I waked up with a severe headache, that grew in intensity as the day advanced. On my arrival I was so ill I had to retire and call over the long distance telephone a Christian Science practitioner. I received instant relief; dropped off to sleep, and later enjoyed a delightful evening with my family, not a trace of illness left. I felt no ill effects afterward, as I had formerly done on such occasions. My mother was present, and as she had never quite forgiven Christian Science for supplanting the orthodox church in our regard, she had an opportunity to see what Christian Science does in illness.
Since we came into Christian Science my daughter has become a Scientist and my son is deeply interested, having been healed of a fever. For these and countless other blessings I owe a debt of gratitude, and my desire is to live so that I may be accounted a worthy follower of our dear Leader, who tells us follow her "only so far as she follows Christ" (Messages to The Mother Church, p. 78). I cannot thank her enough for so living that through her this revelation has come as promised in the Bible.—that the whole world will be led into this truth when human sense has been sufficiently leavened to apprehend it.
